Flash back to January and you’d find Nitti Gritti playing an opening set for DJ duo Bonnie X Clyde at Simons Nightclub. The Miami-based electronic dance music producer had only been creating music for about six months at that point but had already begun turning heads with his fresh take on bass music.

Six months, a host of new releases and a handful of shows later, Nitti Gritti is back in Gainesville, this time taking the headlining spot of Lucid Nightlife’s Summer B Kickoff concert.

The show will take place Friday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Simons, located at 8 S. Main St. Tickets range from $10 to $20, and Florida-based artists MärSHen, Myth and Side Trackd will provide opening support.

Nitti Gritti has experienced a massive amount of growth in only a year of producing. His newest song “Famous,” which was co-produced with EDM artist Jupe, has reached almost 200,000 plays on SoundCloud since its release May 29.

“‘Famous’ is a track I really expected to do well, but I had no idea it would really catch on how it has,” wrote Nitti Gritti, whose real name is Richard Mears, in an email.

Gritti said he has a few other releases planned for 2017, including a song released through Trap Nation, an online music sharing community, as well as a new remix.

As for his upcoming show, Gritti said fans “should expect a lot of bangers and throwbacks … and maybe a mosh pit or two.”

Matt Collins, the owner and head promoter of Lucid Nightlife, said Lucid Nightlife as a whole is a big fan of Nitti Gritti’s “eclectic sound.”

“We absolutely believe he is in the music business for the long run,” Collins said. “He has the entire skill set needed to be a highly successful and famous DJ in our opinion.”

Gritti’s show is possible partially because of an expanding Lucid Nightlife fan base. Collins said ticket sales for all of the company’s shows have increased significantly, with a growing number of people coming from cities like Orlando and Tampa to catch shows in Gainesville.

“The larger crowds have definitely given us room to bring more diverse and larger acts,” Collins said. “I would also say the scene has showed us that it can support more shows as well — clearly Gainesville likes to party.”

Gritti is just one of many EDM acts that Lucid Nightlife has brought to Gainesville in 2017. Coming from performances at the Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival and Electric Daisy Carnival, Gritti is sure to bring an impressive show to Gainesville.

“It’s been crazy to see with the right music, branding and hard work how far a project can move in a year,” Gritti said of his stage persona’s success. “Just shows you it’s not impossible.”
