Center Pouncey practices with depleted defensive line

UF offensive lineman Mike Pouncey practiced with the defensive line Tuesday, Gators coach Urban Meyer said.

The defensive line took a major blow this week by losing starting defensive tackle Javier Estopinan, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the Georgia game, for the season.

Tackles Terron Sanders (left high ankle sprain) will miss several weeks, and Brandon Antwine (lower back) is likely out for the season.

Pouncey is currently listed as the backup center to Drew Miller and, as a recruit, was ranked as the seventh-best offensive guard in the nation, according to Scout.com.

In mid-October, Meyer said he expected Pouncey and his twin brother, Maurkice, to have bright futures with the Gators.

MOVING ON UP: Redshirt freshman Justin Williams could work his way into the Gators? receiving corps, Meyer said.

Williams notched two tackles on special teams against the Bulldogs, a usual requirement to make before moving to the offensive side of the ball.

BThat?s the first thing you really have to do before you get involved in the offense is make a play on special teams,C Meyer said. BHe?s getting a lot better. He?s one of the most improved guys right now.C

WHERE?S WALKER?: Meyer was somewhat elusive about running back Chevon Walker?s status on the team.

Walker played in the first five games of the season, but he hasn?t seen the field since UF?s Sept. 29 home matchup against Auburn.

When asked if the redshirt freshman was still on team, Meyer replied: BHe has got some personal issues he has to take care of. As of now, yes.C
