Cauldrons will bubble and pumpkins will fog the air to promote the appreciation of chemistry and its role in Halloween festivities.
To spark children's interest in science and to celebrate National Chemistry Week, the UF Chemistry Club will hold the Chemistry Club Halloween Fundraiser and participate in Halloween Molecular Mania.
Children of all ages are invited to participate in Halloween Molecular Mania, hosted by UF's Center for Catalysis at The Oaks Mall on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event will be held in the courtyard near Dillard's.
Michael Scott, a UF associate professor in the department of chemistry and adviser to the chemistry club, said many children do not realize the importance of science, something the event hopes to address.
"It's an outreach program geared toward grade- and junior-high-school students who don't fully understand what science is all about."
There will be chemistry experiments in which children can help implode soda cans and create crystal gardens.
