The Gainesville City Commission is holding a hearing today to discuss the possibility of building a development at 2100 NE 39th Ave., near the Gainesville Regional Airport.
While some residents of East Gainesville are championing the development, airport officials say part of the land that developers need is too close to the airport.
The commission will hear arguments about the development in the later part of today's meeting and will make a decision about it Tuesday.
The developers, Hatchet Creek Developers, are trying to bring more business to East Gainesville with the new development.
The development could include an assisted living facility, 200,000 feet for commercial, office or outdoor storage, and residences where at least one resident per unit must be older than 55, according to the commission meeting agenda.
But airport officials are worried about the noise level for some of the residences, she said. About 359 acres of the development are within the Airport Noise Zone, according to the agenda.
The noise level the potential residents would have to deal with is above the legal limit.
