Joiner during his tenure on the UF football team.

UF coach Urban Meyer was tight-lipped about senior safety Tony Joiner's arrest on charges of burglary Tuesday morning.

Meyer, who was "disappointed" when he heard the news, said he?s still evaluating the incident and won?t comment until he knows more because it?s not fair to the people involved.

BI don?t know the whole story, yet,C Meyer said after Tuesday?s practice. BI?m still getting information like a lot of people are.C

Meyer said he would probably find out more details later Tuesday night, and until he does, he refuses to comment candidly about it.

Joiner did not practice Tuesday, and Meyer said it will remain that way until the coach finds out everything about the situation.

Joiner, who is a member of the leadership committee and was voted in as a captain, has totaled 20 tackles, one interception and one pass breakup for the season.

Quarterback Tim Tebow, Joiner?s roommate, said he was asleep when the safety was arrested and feels the safety shouldn?t be benched for the LSU game Saturday.

BI think in his heart he wasn?t trying to do anything wrong, so I think he should (play), yeah,C Tebow said.

Meyer said he was concerned the news would distract his team as it prepares for its matchup against the Tigers, but he didn?t sense a lack of focus at practice.

BThese guys are all family,C Meyer said. BAny time someone has a situation, that distracts the family.C

SHOOTING UPDATE: Meyer said he was very worried about his team?s nighttime activities after three football players were interviewed about a shooting early Sunday morning.

Tight end Aaron Hernandez and two other current Gators yet to be identified were among several people interviewed by police, according to reports from the Orlando Sentinel.

Although the players are not suspects in the case, Meyer said he wasn?t overly happy that his players were out at 2 a.m.

BI mean, I know college kids do stuff,C Meyer said. BI?d rather not do that after games, but I?m not a police officer, either, so I can?t lock them down completely.C
