A 20-year-old Gainesville man was arrested Monday in connection with an armed robbery at a Circle K in May, according to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say two masked men armed with a handgun and rifle entered the Circle K on Hawthorne Road in the early hours of May 10. Police later identified Mikale Fuye as one of the two men.
According to the arrest report, the men ordered a customer to the ground at gunpoint and stole cash from the register before fleeing. The cashier pleaded with the suspects to not shoot her.
On May 18, ACSO officials were investigating a home burglary, where Fuye was identified as a suspect because his car was in the area and at the location where the victim’s credit card was allegedly used.
When deputies attempted a traffic stop on Fuye’s car, he reportedly fled and threw what was later found to be a handgun out of the car. He also crashed the car while fleeing.
He was arrested, and a search warrant was filed for his car and home. During the search, police found gloves similar to those used during the Circle K robbery in the car, according to the arrest report.
A rifle similar to the one used in the Circle K robbery was also found in his home, according to the report. Fuye’s mom said he wasn’t home the day of the initial robbery. According to the arrest report, Fuye has prior felonies for several weapon offenses, including firing a gun in public.
Investigators charged Fuye with three counts of armed robbery with a firearm, kidnapping for keeping the victims in the store with the threat of a firearm, displaying a weapon while committing a felony and three counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon.
Fuye remains in the Alachua County Jail, where he was initially booked after the home burglary.
