UF football player arrested, charged with burglary

UF football team captain and safety Earl A. "Tony" Joiner was arrested and charged with burglary early Tuesday.

According to an arrest report, Joiner pushed open a heavy electronic gate at about 4:30 a.m. to take his girlfriend's car out of Watson's Towing without paying the ,76 tow fee.

Joiner was released at 1:17 p.m. Tuesday, according to Alachua County Jail records. He was released on his own recognizance, which means he left without bail but will return to face charges.

Stan Forron, property manager for the lot, said Joiner was supposed to be there to pick up the car and it wasn't a burglary."It was a miscommunication," he said. However, Gainesville Police Department spokesman Lt. Keith Kameg said there had been no miscommunication.

It's up to the courts now to decide his exact charges, Kameg said.

According to the report, GPD officer Robert Concannon overheard Joiner talking on the phone.

According to Concannon, Joiner said, "I am probably about to go to jail 'cuz I did push the gate open."

Joiner said he intended to pay the tow bill but got impatient, according to the arrest report.
