In its yearly effort to increase safety awareness at UF, the University Police Department will release its 2007 "Together for a Safe Campus" brochure in hard copy Tuesday.

The annual safety brochure includes crime statistics for crimes from the previous school year occurring on and near UF facilities.

It also contains traffic safety tips, victim assistance information, crime prevention pointers and information about what UPD has to offer.

Parents often read the online version when deciding which university is best for their child, said Lt. Robert Wagner of UPD.

"Parents of prospective students are especially interested in reading up on crime statistics and the university's policies," Wagner said. "They want to make sure they are sending their kid to a safe school."

Capt. Jeff Holcomb, UPD spokesman, hopes students educate themselves with the brochures so they can feel safer at school.

"We give them plenty of opportunities to learn about previous crimes and how to prevent future ones," he said.

The brochure is available at the Community Services Division of UPD or online on the UPD Web site.
