It always surprises me, no matter how many times I hear it: going green can be economical.
What's more is that some of the things we can do to conserve resources like water and energy are straightforward, simple and can make a considerable difference.
Some changes won't take too much time and energy: Changing your incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs, turning off your air conditioner when you don't need it, turn off lights when you leave a room, and a lot of other things.
Melissa Baum Haley, graduate student in the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences department of agricultural and biological engineering, and the research team she was part of have found more simple things to do:
Water your lawn based on the season.
Install a soil moisture sensor to shut off if your sprinkler should come on, if the soil is still moist.
These small changes could leave to huge savings for homeowners and better for the environment.
