'Mind over matter'

He pulled and tugged to get his glove on - a task that is usually a simple one for him. After he spent minutes pulling the glove over each finger, Mark Dinnell, a custodian at Simpson Hall, finally got it in place.

"A lot of times when you get sanitary gloves, they aren't the right size," he said.

After he lost his arm in a milling accident in 1980, Dinnell underwent a 15-month recovery process before he was able to return to work.

"It was a matter of mind over matter as to accepting the loss," he said.

With help from his family, Dinnell pulled through the recovery process and began to return to his favorite activities such as horseback riding, karaoke and instructing kids' soccer.
