Student production of 'Vagina Monologues' holds last day of open auditions

For females who have always wanted to express feelings about their sexuality and bodies in a public setting, the opportunity has arrived.

The last night of open auditions for a live production of "The Vagina Monologues" will be held at the Reitz Union in Room 276 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today.

The performance is a collaborative effort between the UF chapters of Victory Over Violence and Feminist Activists Creating Equality, said Mandy Moo, the coordinator of the event.

The tentative showing date is Feb. 24, she said.

No acting experience is necessary, and everyone who auditions will receive a part in the production, said Anna Savitsky, vice president of Victory Over Violence.

Five female students attended the first night of auditions Tuesday.

Savitsky, a political science and women's studies and gender research senior, said the show is a reading of the real-life stories of women from the book by Eve Ensler of the same name.

The monologues tell stories of intimacy, love and self-discovery, along with heavier issues such as rape, said Christina Baez, public relations chair for Victory Over Violence.
