Meyer denies rumors about Atlanta Falcons coaching job

ORLANDO - UF coach Urban Meyer isn't considering a job as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, contrary to a rumor that circulated on the Internet over the past few days.

Meyer said Sunday that he hadn?t had any contact with the Falcons organization.

BI?m really happy where I?m at,C said Meyer, who stated in the past that he wouldn?t want to coach in the NFL. BI could give you the Coach 101 speech, but mine?s from the heart.C

The Falcons are still trying to replace Bobby Petrino, who left the team for Arkansas earlier this month.

SORRENTINO GIVES BACK: Santa Claus visited an Orlando children?s hospital in a slightly different form this week.

UF backup wide receiver Joey Sorrentino donated his bowl gift to children at an area hospital that members of the team visited.

Players from Florida and Michigan received gift cards to Best Buy, and Sorrentino used his to purchase a Nintendo Wii game console, which he then donated.

BHe?s got a good soul,C Meyer said. BHe?s a good man. That doesn?t surprise me. When people told me, I was like, 'That?s Joey Sorrentino.? That?s the kind of guy he is.C

Sorrentino, a redshirt sophomore, has functioned mainly on special teams this season.

SENIOR TACKLE: The Gators concluded Sunday?s practice with the Senior Tackle, a ritual honoring the team?s 11 seniors.

BIt?s always a hard thing, especially for the really invested guys,C Meyer said. BThere were some (tears). It?s all private though.C

The fact that the Capital One Bowl will be the final game for the Gators? small senior class has been somewhat lost in the hype for UF?s squad next year, and Meyer wants to see his veterans leave on a high note.

BOne of the things I keep hearing is that this is a springboard for the 2008 team,C Meyer said. BThere?s a lot of anticipation for that ?08 team, and we don?t have many seniors, but we want to send them out winners.C

Senior Tony Joiner lost his status as a team captain before the LSU game earlier this season after an incident at a tow lot, and Meyer has yet to reinstate him.

BI haven?t made that decision yet,C he said. B(Joiner) is a leader of that defense right now.C
