Coach Amanda Butler misses Temple game

PHILADELPHIA - If the UF women's basketball team is to earn its first road win this afternoon, it will have to do it without its head coach.

A family emergency has forced Amanda Butler to miss today's game at Temple.

Her grandmother, Viola Draper, whom Butler credits for having a big influence in her childhood, is very ill and Butler has traveled back to her hometown, Mt. Juliet, Tenn., in order to be with her.

Draper, in her late 90's, has been in the hospital the last few days and Butler had planned to travel home after today's game, but Butler received a phone call from her father after the team's practice Friday that she was needed home sooner.

Assistant head coach Susie Gardner, who was the head coach at Arkansas the past four seasons, will perform head coaching duties until Butler's return.
