UF President Bernie Machen pitched Florida Tomorrow, UF's newest capital campaign, to an audience of about 450 on Thursday night in Miami.

The speech was the first of several upcoming events making up UF's regional campaigning efforts for Florida Tomorrow. The campaign, similar to The Gator Nation promotion, was created by the UF Foundation to attract donations to the university.

Florida Tomorrow's overall goal is to raise $1.5 billion during the next five years. Machen announced the campaign's official kickoff in September.

Chris Brazda, spokesman for the UF Foundation, said UF has set monetary goals for each region Machen visits, and UF hopes to raise $65 million in donations from the Miami-Dade area.

Machen's audience on Thursday was comprised mostly of UF alumni and friends, Brazda said.

His next two destinations will be Orlando on April 2 and New York City on May 15.
