A member of UF's Board of Trustees was named president of the Orange Bowl Committee on Wednesday.
Daniel Ponce, a UF alumnus, said he has been a member of the Orange Bowl Committee, the group that oversees the annual college football bowl game in Miami, for 14 years.
His new position is no surprise: Ponce was elected to be president for the 2008-2009 term four years ago, and Ponce said UF's board members support his new position.
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist appointed Ponce to UF's Board of Trustees on Jan. 9.
"It's not going to take away from me being a trustee," he said. "Neither one of them is going to eat my life up."
He said he would help plan the 75th anniversary Orange Bowl game and the national championship game.
He said his close relationship with college football gives him a unique perspective as a UF board member. Athletics are an important part of the school, he said.
