Working out the kinks

An observant, if bored, reader e-mailed me last week noting that there seemed to be more spelling errors in the paper as of late. The reader wondered whether it was because of new-semester blues or something along those lines.

Since the reader seemed perceptive, I would imagine that he or she noticed the number of names that changed in our masthead and bylines since the fall. Just about every one of our staff members are new to their positions, including managing editor for print Devin Culclasure and myself.

Certainly turnover is a staple at the Alligator, as reporters and photographers graduate to become editors, and seniors, well, just graduate. The turnover is part of the excitement of working in the newsroom, but it's also one of the challenges. And as we're all settling into our jobs, there are going to be a few hiccups, as said reader kindly pointed out to me.

However, if you can bear with us, I think you will see several positive changes to the Alligator this semester in addition to our commitment to reporting on all things UF and Gainesville.

Since you're on the Web site already, you should check out one of those changes: It's called Gainesville Explorer, and it's an interactive tour of interesting places in and around the city. And please stay tuned - to the paper and to this site - for all of the other projects our staff is working hard on.
