The Orange and Blue Party released its platform Tuesday in preparation for Student Government spring elections Feb. 26 and 27.

The party's main goals involve online SG voting with students' GatorLink accounts and reducing the amount of money SG "lavishly" spends on items for its top-ranked officials, such as $45,000 for phones, said Mark McShera, chairman of Orange and Blue.

"We just think that there are a lot better ways to spend $50,000 than on BlackBerries," McShera said.

He said the money saved by cutting back on waste, which he said also includes SG advertising, new office furniture and other mismanaged funds, would aid student organizations facing trimmed budgets.

Orange and Blue also opposes awarding bonuses to UF administrators during times of budget crisis, he said.

UF President Bernie Machen received a nearly $300,000 bonus in December. McShera said most of the goals are financially achievable and could be completed in one semester if his party wins.

Another Orange and Blue plan is to replace UF's current WebMail system with Google's Gmail, which would provide a free e-mail service tailor-made for UF, he said.

The Gator Party, Orange and Blue's opposition, also promised to reform WebMail in its platform released Monday.

A section of the Orange and Blue Party's Web site, which operates like a Wikipedia entry that anyone can edit, helped the party determine the platform's points. He said the idea to ask administrators to observe the day before Thanksgiving as a "Travel Day" came from students' submissions.
