SFCC student seen with gun on campus, no one injured

An SFCC student brandished a gun in the campus' food court Tuesday afternoon but did not fire it, a college spokesman said.

No one was injured, but classes were canceled for the afternoon, spokesman Larry Keen said by telephone. As of 4 p.m. police had not caught the student, who police have identified but whose name has not been released, but determined that he was not on campus any longer, Keen said.

The campus was not locked down since the gun had not been used, he said.

Though campus police officials do not believe the gun was pointed at anyone, they are still viewing it as a threat.

"The simple display of a gun at this campus is viewed by our police department as a threat," Keen said.

College officials sent students a series of five e-mails throughout the afternoon and early evening, the first alerting alert students that classes were canceled and to stay away from campus. The last e-mail stated the campus would reopen for night classes at 7 p.m.
