Student Body President Ryan Moseley will form a committee to investigate online voting, a Student Government official announced in a Student Senate meeting Tuesday night.

Kim Cruts, SG press secretary, said Moseley's group would be created in reaction to an e-mail from Patricia Telles-Irvin, vice president of UF student affairs, to both SG political parties - the Gator Party and Orange and Blue Party.

In the e-mail, Telles-Irvin suggested creating a committee to research online voting, which was declared unconstitutional by the UF Supreme Court Feb. 12. Students for Online Voting, the group fighting for online voting in SG elections, recently filed a lawsuit against UF following the ruling.

The senators convened 30 minutes later than usual Tuesday because polls for the first day of Student Government elections closed at 8 p.m.

There were no special requests or bills presented in the 40-minute meeting.

After the meeting, Kevin Reilly, Student Senate president, described Senate's lack of activity as part of the "natural ebb and flow" of legislation - a notion confirmed by Glenda Frederick, Senate secretary.

He also said it is not unusual for activity to drop off during SG elections because many senators are seeking re-election.

Most committee chairs yielded their time for public debate to recently appointed Sen. Brian Finkel, who gave a tongue-in-cheek speech about how students don't take advantage of SG services available on campus.
