Believe it or not, that headline isn't misleading.
After learning that ESPN Gameday would be coming to Gainesville for the annual Orange and Blue spring scrimmage, Urban Meyer decided to spice things up a bit for the recruiting market by implementing a "Speed Challenge." The challenge will have the fastest non-athlete student on campus compete in a 40-yard dash against Percy Harvin, Deonte Thompson, Louis Murphy and Chris Rainey.
"If you guys want to race em', you're welcome to go out and race 'em," Meyer said. "I know where I'll put my money."
Meyer said the logistics have not being worked out yet, but once spring practice starts on March 19, every Thursday-when the team doesn't train-UF students will be invited out to the football practice field to run for UF's strength and conditioning coaches. The fastest will be selected to compete against the football players.
The Alligator may even have a student tryout, so keep your eye out for future info on that.
With the big stars (Tim Tebow, Harvin) likely to not play in large doses, Meyer wanted to make the broadcast as exciting as possible.
And if you actually beat Harvin and gang, I hope you have some free time on your hands. Meyer said if anybody beat Harvin, he'd offer them a scholarship, and it didn't appear that he was joking.
