Golf is, some say, a game of inches.
On Wednesday, the UF women's golf team just tried not to yield feet.
Scores soared at the final round of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas, as gusts continued to blast the University of Texas Golf Club a day after inclement weather canceled the second round.
How tough was it?
The Gators' 31-over 319 was the team's worst mark of the season, a whopping 12 shots worse than their 307 at the Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate in October.
Yet it was still Wednesday's lowest round.
Despite the team's performance, UF, which finished at 48-over, couldn't quite catch first-round leader New Mexico, which fired a 32-over 320 to edge the Gators by one stroke at 47-over.
Given the circumstances, this may be the season's most remarkable outing.
The brutal conditions left no scorecard unscathed.
Whitney Myers' 76 tied her with Kansas State's Michelle Regan for the day's low round by an individual, but a bogey on her final hole cost her a share of medallist honors.
The senior finished at 8-over for the tournament, one shot behind Arkansas' Stacy Lewis.
Redshirt junior Ornella Jouven sustained three consecutive double-bogeys on her back nine and still finished tied for fourth at 11-over after an 83 Wednesday.
Yet this week may be her finest hour as a UF player, as her tournament-low 72 on Monday was also the low at the tournament, and the fourth-place finish tied her career best.
Tiffany Chudy shot an 80, including two double bogeys and two birdies, and leapt six places up the leaderboard into a tie for 13th.
Clearly, this was not a beauty contest.
UF's two freshmen sustained the most blemishes.
Hannah Yun's 24th-place finish was the result of her two worst collegiate rounds, a 79 on Monday and Wednesday's six-bogey 81.
Jessica Yadloczky made just one birdie in her tournament, on her 13th hole in the first round, and on Wednesday her longest streak of pars was only three holes.
Ten bogeys left her with a final round 82 and a share of 38th place.
