One of the greatest hassles for both women and men has always been the removal of unwanted hair. Men shave their beards, and some wax their backs, while women diligently shave nearly everywhere else on a daily basis.

Not only is it time consuming, but it's also expensive. Think of how much money you've spent on razors, shave gel and razor cartridges during the past few years. And don't forget about calming or cooling lotions to soothe irritation and razor burn.

Waxing can be a decent choice for many men and women, but it's more expensive than shaving and can cause irritation for people with sensitive skin. Depilatory lotions like Veet and Nair, which you put on your skin and then scrub off, are other options but don't prove to be a great alternative. It is more time consuming than shaving, it doesn't last much longer, and it can cause irritation.

After these failed attempts, I gave up and went back to shaving every day, upgrading my choice of razor with every new release in the hopes of more successful, longer-lasting results.

Last summer, I finally found a solution when I saw an ad for laser hair removal. Laser hair removal is a great option because it literally zaps hairs at the root, stunting their growth. After each treatment, a percentage of the hair will be gone forever. Most people need 10 to 15 treatments to kill all of the hair follicles in the region being treated, but this figure also depends on the size of the area.

While I was impressed with the concept, I was apprehensive to the possible pain and irritation.

However, I was surprised how quick and painless the procedure was. For legs, underarms and bikini area, it took less than an hour per treatment, and there was no irritation afterward. As far as pain, the laser caused a minor prickly sensation, which can be slightly uncomfortable at times, but in no sense was it painful.

The main issue was finding a place that didn't drain my bank account. Most places wanted $3,000-$6,000 for a cycle of 12 to 15 treatments on the legs, bikini area and underarms. Because I'm a college student, like most of you, that simply wasn't in my budget.

In my research, I found that if you avoid the chain laser hair removal places, you can find a better deal. As with everything else, persistence and timing is key. I found a place that was running a summer special and was able to get a package deal of 12 treatments for $1,200 dollars. And since $100 per treatment is about the cost of waxing your legs alone, I was thrilled.

I am on my seventh treatment, and I highly recommend it.

Best of all, laser hair removal can be used almost anywhere on the body. It's a great option for men looking to remove chest and back hair.

Before committing to a place, do your research. Find a place that is affordable and reputable. It can be a great investment that literally eliminates one irritating chore.
