UF officials announced residence hall check-in will be suspended from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Thursday in anticipation of bad weather from Tropical Storm Fay.
Steve Orlando, UF spokesman, said the decision was made because weather conditions are expected to be too dangerous for students to travel during these days.
Students who have already moved into campus residence halls should stay put, according to a Monday news release.
"We're trying to make sure people know that it's much safer to be in the dorms than be on the roads," Orlando said.
He said parents of students who have already moved in should reconsider getting back on the roads to bring them home from Gainesville at this point.R A decision about whether to close campus will be determined by midday Tuesday.
UF students, faculty and staff will be notified by e-mail and text messaging about the decision.
The first day of a Preview session will go as planned Tuesday morning, and the Dean of Students Office will adjust the two-day orientation program based on the storm's development, according to the release.
