Of 10 underage drinking arrests made by Gainesville Police on Wednesday night, five included members of Student Government political parties at The Swamp Restaurant.

Gator Party Treasurer Brady Beitlich, 20, was one of the students arrested on charges of underage drinking.

Beitlich said he regrets his decision, but the incident is unrelated to the Gator Party.

"This is simply five college students who made a bad decision and are dealing with the side effects from it," he said.

Two students who registered with the party this week were among those arrested, along with Student Sen. Suzanne Hershman, 20, and replacement Student Sen. Ryan McCarthy, who turns 21 next month.

"It's really no one else's business," Beitlich said. "It was simply friends gathering at Swamp after a very long day."

All five students were issued a court date and a notice to appear, said GPD Lt. Keith Kameg.

Kameg said the arrests should serve as a wake-up call for bar and restaurant security.
