A man armed with a samurai sword was arrested by Gainesville Police early Tuesday morning.
Charles Davis, 66, was arrested on charges of armed trespassing and breach of peace, a GPD report stated.
Police arrived at 4:40 a.m. and witnessed Davis standing outside the front door of a house on Northeast Seventh Terrace, shouting obscenities and brandishing a large samurai sword, the report stated.
When Davis was asked to drop the sword, he slammed it into the ground, still shouting, and police threatened to use a Taser on him, it stated.
The report stated that Davis did not cooperate and was shot with the Taser. He was treated by Emergency Medial Services on the scene.
Deputies were notified to put Davis on suicide watch.Police reported that Davis has a history of substance abuse and threats involving rifles and starving himself.
He has undergone official mental evaluations three times, the report stated.
