Trinity Joy Johnson, a 26-year-old Gainesville woman, pleaded guilty Tuesday to the production and distribution of child sexual abuse material, according to a press release.
Johnson pleaded guilty to using her phone to take sexually explicit photographs of a toddler she was taking care of, according to the press release. She shared the photos and other child sexual abuse material with strangers online. After searching her phone, investigators found over 100 files of the material.
She pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually exploiting children to create child sexual abuse material, 15 counts of distributing material and one count of possessing it.
For each of the two counts of producing the material, Johnson faces between 15 to 30 years in prison. She could be sentenced to an additional five to 20 years in prison for each of the 15 counts of distribution, and she could face up to 20 years for the possession charge.
The case was part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to stop child exploitation and abuse.
“Thanks to the outstanding investigative work by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations, my office was able to aggressively prosecute this defendant to ensure she is held fully accountable for her disgusting crimes victimizing an innocent child,” U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin said in the press release.
Johnson’s sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. at the United States Courthouse in Gainesville.
