Man arrested for robbing local Walgreens

Gainesville Police arrested a man Tuesday in connection with a robbery at a Walgreens earlier in the week, where two sticks were used as a fake gun.

Samuel Joel Dread, 19, was arrested at 11:43 p.m. on charges of armed robbery, a GPD report stated.

On Monday, a man walked into the Walgreens at 1615 NW 13th St. and told the clerk he had a gun, the report said.

The clerk took more than $300 from the register, put the money in a plastic Walgreens bag and handed it over, it stated.

The man drove away in a car that had a neon light around the license plate, the report said.

An officer pulled Dread over at about 11 p.m. Tuesday and convinced him to go to the police station, it stated.

At the station, Dread told police he had committed the robbery and that the weapon was actually a fake gun made from two sticks, the report stated.

He told police he was unable to keep a job and needed money, it stated.

Dread also told police he committed another robbery on Sept. 8 at the Outreach Thrift Store, the report stated.

GPD spokeswoman Summer Hallett said it is expected that Dread will be charged in the robbery at the Outreach Thrift Store.
