GPD searches for man involved in sexual assault case

No arrests have been made after a woman reported to Gainesville Police that she was sexually assaulted in her East Gainesville apartment Tuesday morning.

The woman told police that she woke up at 3 a.m. to see a man she did not recognize standing at the foot of her bed, GPD spokeswoman Summer Hallett said.

The woman told police than when she started to scream, the man covered her mouth with his hand, and she bit him, Hallett said. She told police there was a struggle before the man sexually assaulted her.

She said he then walked over to her closet, rummaged through her belongings and left, Hallett said.

The woman called police and was transported to a local hospital, Hallett said.

Information was not available on the woman's injuries or if anything was stolen.

The woman told police that the man was about 6 feet tall but said she was not able to give any other description because the room had been dark.

There were no signs of forced entry, and police are continuing the investigation, Hallett said.
