The owner of a blue 2006 Dodge Magnum told Gainesville Police his car was stolen after he got out to check for collision damage early Sunday.

The driver, whose name was not available, told police he was bumped by another car at Northwest Ninth Street and Northwest Third Avenue, GPD Lt. Larry Seale said.

When he got out to inspect his car, the driver told police that a man shouted for him to get down, Seale said. While he was on the ground, a second man ripped a gold chain from around the driver's neck and hit him on the head with an unknown object, Seale said.

The car was last seen heading north on Northwest Ninth Street at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Seale said.
