Students for Obama opens new office downtown

An off-campus downtown office for UF Students for Barack Obama went fully operational Monday.

The office, at 11 W. University Ave., will be run by student volunteers, said Eric Conrad, the group's co-coordinator.

Their focus will largely be on getting people to the polls for early voting, which runs from Oct. 20 to Nov. 1, Conrad said.

Similar student-run offices are opening in Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa and Tallahassee as part of a strategy to mobilize voters on college campuses, according to a release from the Obama campaign.
