A Gainesville Police officer trying to separate an arguing couple became inadvertently involved in the scuffle Sunday morning.
David Reveille, wearing full uniform, spotted Richard Alan Lowry, 22, and Brooke Christen Hedges, 20, arguing in front of the Grog House at 1718 W. University Ave. at about 1 a.m., a GPD report stated.
Reveille reported that he called to the couple to separate when he saw Lowry start to pull on Hedges' arm, but the two continued to walk away, still arguing, the report stated.
Reveille caught up with them a block away on West University Avenue and asked them to separate again, the report stated.
According to the report, they refused, and Hedges started to hit Reveille in the face.
The report stated that as Reveille attempted to handcuff Hedges, she continued to punch him and Lowry started to push him.
More police arrived on the scene and the two were arrested, the report stated.
Hedges told police that she had been arguing with her boyfriend and did hit Reveille, the report stated.
