Small plane crash kills three

A small plane crash east of the Gainesville Regional Airport resulted in three deaths early Friday morning, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Partenavia two-engine plane crashed on the north side of 39th Avenue, about 3.7 miles east of Waldo Road, said Kathleen Bergen of the FAA.

The plane belonged to Robert Valle of St. Croix, Bergen said. It was cleared by officials at the Jacksonville International Airport to land at the Gainesville Regional Airport at 2:45 a.m.

The crash was discovered by Gainesville authorities at 7:40 a.m., she said.

Preliminary pages by Gainesville Police stated that the crash involved an "organ transplant plane."

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
