When asked if he has made a "signature hit" this year, junior linebacker Brandon Spikes gave a quick response: "No, not at all."

That attitude - the one that makes him keep pushing himself - is a big part of the reason why Spikes has been named one of five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Award, given annually to the best defensive player by the Football Writers Association of America.

While it was pointed out to Spikes that his hit on Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno on the game's second play was a vicious one, he still has a hunger for more.

"I want to knock a guy out of the game," Spikes said. "You just want to put a guy out, have an ambulance come get them off the field."

Spikes is the third Gator to ever be a finalist for the award, joining Reggie Nelson (2006) and Alex Brown (2001).

Spikes is definitely not ready, however, to say this will be his last home game, just like quarterback Tim Tebow did not say anything on Tuesday.

"I've just been focused on winning - that's it," Spikes said.

STRONG FOCUSED ON SATURDAY: As the Gators seemingly keep playing better every week, the talk of their coordinators getting head coaching jobs increases as well.

Defensive coordinator Charlie Strong admitted his name has been talked about, but wouldn't give any further credence to the talk.

"My name has been out there for, what, the last so many years?" Strong said. "I have a great job here. I don't even listen to (the talk) anymore. If you let yourself get consumed with it, it will take away from what you're doing now."

INJURY NEWS: Sophomore offensive guard Carl Johnson (sprained MCL) practiced "a little bit," Meyer said, adding that he should be fine to play Saturday.
