The following is in response to my column that appeared in Thursday's Alligator, which referenced some harsh comments written about me two years ago apparently by Ben Dictor, the Progress Party's candidate for SG president.

I received an e-mail on Thursday from a UF alumnus and friend of Dictor's named Brian Gates. Gates claimed responsibility for the comments I referenced: he said he had made them while he was accidentally logged into Dictor's Facebook account.

Dictor says he had no knowledge of the comments. Over the past two years, I received no reason to believe Dictor didn't make those comments. My column was based off this assumption.

While I regret the confusion this "identity theft" has caused, I stand by my statements regarding campus politics and student voting habits: Let's not take this too seriously folks.

In the meantime, should Gates ever decide to run for public office, my pen will be ready.
