Improv troupe performs in 12–hour event for charity

When couches appeared on the North Lawn of the UF's campus, people stopped and looked.

On Thursday, Theatre Strike Force, a student improvisation troupe, camped out for 12 hours by the Reitz Union Colonnade, complete with two couches, a bookshelf and blankets, to promote its 12 hours of improv event today.

TSF is hosting the comedy event, which started in 2005, from noon until midnight to raise money for Relay for Life.

It will take place at the Orange & Brew and in Reitz Union room 282.

TSF members asked anyone making the trek between Weimer Hall and the Reitz Union to write 12 on a white board on display.

Gus Laguna, a UF economics junior, said the five seconds it takes someone to write on the board gives him just enough time to make his pitch.

TSF member Jessie Ervolino, a UF sophomore, said the group has been doing things with the 12 theme to promote today's event all week, including a 12-minute make-out session and eating an entire pie in 12 minutes.

Laguna said the group improvs for fun, but behind the jokes and games, it is all for a good cause.

The event starts at the Orange & Brew with open improv from all members of TSF.

When TSF moves to room 282, there will be scheduled troupe performances of both short and long form improv. The finale will be held back at the Orange & Brew.

Katie LeBlanc, a UF sophomore and TSF member, said it is a free event, but there will be jars for attendees to donate money.

Last year, TSF raised nearly $5,000 for Relay for Life and placed third in overall fundraising.
