The Santa Fe College softball team showed no mercy to St. John's River Community College in a doubleheader Tuesday.

The Saints (41-5, 16-4 Mid-Florida Conference) mercy-ruled the Vikings in both games, winning 8-0 each time.

"Two run-rule games are always good, especially when they are conference games," SFC coach Chris Ahern said. "We had a good contribution today from everyone who played. We used all our weapons. It was a total team effort."

In Game 1, the Saints jumped on the Vikings early, putting up 1 run in the first inning compliments of a shot over the left-field fence by sophomore outfielder Lawna Hunter.

Pitcher Kimberly Squires (21-3) started the game off the right way, striking out the first three batters she faced. She recorded six total strikeouts in Game 1 with no runs on six hits.

Squires also helped herself out, going 2 for 4 at the plate with an 2 RBIs.

SFC finished off SJRCC in the bottom of the fifth inning with a string of hits from sophomore outfielder Brittany Cannon, sophomore second baseman Nadirah Nesfield, Hunter and Squires that produced 4 consecutive runs.

Hunter proved indispensable in the back-to-back games, going 4 for 8 at the plate and bringing home three runners.

On offense, the Saints were on top of their game in Game 2. Sophomore shortstop Erika Garcia went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Cannon was 2 for 4 with one RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Ashley Schmitt (18-2) and freshman Ali Savage proved too much for the Vikings to handle, as they were unable to produce a run in the second game either. Schmitt allowed three hits in five innings, and Savage finished the game with no hits in the top of the sixth.

"We came out strong on offense and defense," Schmitt said. "We just did great and kept it up both games."
