Florida's men's golf team moved up the leader board to second place after 36 holes at the Isleworth Invitational in Windermere.
The Gators carded a two-round total of 584 (292-292, +8).
Tim McKenney, a senior and the only UF competitor who played in this tournament in 2006, is leading the Gators with a tie ninth place and a total of 146 (68-78, +2) strokes.
"He [McKenney] played probably the best round of the tournament yesterday [Sunday]…he was four under with no bogeys and on a golf course like this that's pretty rare," senior Tyson Alexander said. "He struggled a little bit today…but he's been around the block and he knows what to do."
Freshman Phillip Choi did a complete 180 in his second round of play; finishing last among his teammates to leading Florida on Monday. He is currently in a tie for 15th after a 36-hole score of 147 (78-69, +3). Choi made a total of six birdies and two bogeys on his second eighteen holes.
"I don't think he played to well the first round, but I feel like Phil did a good job of forgetting bad shots and letting it go," said Alexander. "…That's one thing I guess freshmen aren't particularly good at is learning how to stay patient…he did a great job for us today."
Also tied for 15th is Alexander. Alexander totaled 73 strokes on his second 18 holes, after putting two birdies in between two bogeys on his final holes of the day.
Junior Andres Echavarria tied for 24th and improved his score from Sunday to a two-over 74. Robbie Wight rounded out the line up and finished in 33rd place carding a 151 (75-76, +7).
On the other side of the country, the women's golf team is currently ranked seventh after their first round at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Nevada. The team carded a total of 298 (+1) in 18 holes.
Junior Jessica Yadloczky (71, -1) headed up the Gators with a tie for 12th place. Yadloczky had an eagle on the par-five 13th hole. She is one of three competitors to do so on Monday.
"She [Yadloczky] played pretty well," said head coach Jan Dowling. "She hit it pretty well. She made some putts and she had an eagle and a couple birdies. She even felt like she knocked a couple shots out there. We are happy for her."
Finishing one stroke behind veteran Yadloczky was freshman Amelia Lewis. She carded an even-par 72. Lewis went tit for tat; balancing her birdies and bogeys to stay even through the first round.
The Lendel sisters, sophomore Marika and freshman Isabelle, tied for 32nd each carding a one-over 73.
Sophomore Evan Jensen finished last among the Gators, tying for 52nd. A bogey ad a double bogey on her 15th and 16th hole, respectively, kept her at three over par.
"It's fine [on Jensen's 52nd place finish], that's the way golf works," Dowling said. "She hit the ball really well and she had two bad swings that cost her… We are confident that she will come back tomorrow and the next day and do well."
