Gainesville police are still searching for the two men involved in the fatal shooting of Santa Fe College student Stacey Brown, 20, who was already dead when police arrived Monday night.

Brown was visiting her friend Mannuel Shaw, 21, in his apartment in Pine Ridge when the men forced their way in, said GPD Capt. Ed Books.

One of the men fired two shots when Shaw threatened them with an unloaded gun, and one bullet struck Brown in the back and traveled through her chest, Books said.

The motive has been determined as robbery, as some drugs and a small amount of cash were taken from the apartment. Police cannot tell if Brown was the intended target, he said.

The suspects are described as black males between the ages of 25 and 30. One may have tattoos on his hands or a long goatee, Books said.

Anyone with information about the car or the men are asked to call Det. Mike Schentrup at 352-334-2471.
