Dr. Ben Carson wants to see the day when people don’t need a Black History Month.
In his opinion, the ultimate goal is a world in which people can be happy celebrating that simple thing we all have in common: our humanity.
“I hope someday we reach a point where it’s everybody celebrating everybody,” he said.
Carson, a renowned black neurosurgeon, came to UF last week as the 24th annual Martin Luther King Jr. speaker.
During his speech, Carson described his journey from his days as a young boy struggling to get through elementary school to his current position as a widely respected pediatric neurosurgeon.
He said he hopes students understand the importance of supporting the country’s education system.
“The real key is learning and understanding what your gifts and talents are and not trying to fit a square peg into a round hole,” he said.
