Singer, songwriter and pianist Ben Folds will perform tonight at 8 at UF’s Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

Folds was paid $35,240 for the show, according to Student Government Finance.

The event is sponsored by Student Government Productions Music and Entertainment and the Jewish Student Union.

They brought Folds to UF in honor of Jewish Awareness Month.

“JAM immediately jumped on board at the opportunity to co-sponsor this event as one of the pinnacle events for their month,” said Aaron Crespin, chairman of SGP Music and Entertainment.

This is the singer’s first appearance at UF, Crespin said.

A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Folds has been part of the music scene for 15 years. His former band, Ben Folds Five, recorded three studio albums during its seven years together and is best known for the single “Brick.”

In September 2008, Folds released his third solo album titled “Way to Normal.”

Tickets may be purchased at the University Box Office.

Admission for students costs $14 and $19 for the general public.
