Disneynature’s campaign helps explain ocean pollution via artsy event

An outdoor art installation featuring seven plastic turtles brought the issue of ocean pollution out of its shell this week.

The turtles, made entirely of recycled plastic bottles, lined the lawn on the Plaza of the Americas from Tuesday to Thursday.

They were brought to UF as part of the Save My Oceans Tour, an event designed to help people understand the issues associated with plastic pollution, global warming and overfishing.

UF is the first stop on the turtles’ 10-university tour, which was organized as a social action campaign for Disneynature’s film “Oceans,” the follow-up to its documentary, “Earth.”

The tour came to UF hoping that students could help in the effort to reduce pollution from plastics, said Youtchi von Lintel, executive director at Participant Media, the film company that produced “Oceans.”

Gators Going Green was on hand at the art installation to encourage students to sign the petition.
