Gainesville residents can now vote in the runoff election for their next mayor and District 4 city commissioner.

Early voting begins today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the County Administration Building, located at 12 SE First St., and runs through Saturday.

Up for mayor are Craig Lowe and Don Marsh, and Randy Wells and Penny Wheat vie for the Disctrict 4 seat.

“[Early voting] really allows people who have busy schedules to vote at their convenience,” said Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Pam Carpenter.

She hopes participation increases during the runoff, but historically, a second election draws fewer voters than the first.

UF students looking to vote early can hitch a ride with members of Lowe’s campaign, who will be driving students from the Plaza of the Americas to the County Administration Building this week from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The runoff election is April 13.
