If one were to look at who beat who, a tough match for the No. 3 Gators women’s tennis team might have been anticipated against No. 11 Miami (20-6), but Florida’s speed and athleticism led to a 4-0 victory over the Hurricanes.

Miami entered the match fresh off of an upset of No. 5 Northwestern, one of only two teams to hand UF a loss this season, but the Gators were not fazed.

Sophomore Joanna Mather and freshman Lauren Embree bounced back from a loss in Thursday’s round of 16 to defeat Anna Bartenstein and Bianca Eichkorn 8-3 on court No. 2.

Freshman Caroline Hitimana and senior Anastasia Revzina clinched the doubles point for Florida with an 8-3 win over Danielle Mills and Claudia Wasilewski at the No. 3 spot.

Embree, Mather and Revzina did not slow down in singles.

No. 9 Embree got UF started in singles with a marquee win over No. 7 Laura Vallverdu 6-4, 6-2 on the showcase court.  The victory extended Embree’s singles win streak to 15 matches.

Mather was next to close out in straight sets with a 6-4, 6-2 win over No. 113 Gabriela Mejia at the No. 5 position.

After being beat out by teammate Marrit Boonstra in the race to clinch in the home farewell match against South Carolina State, Revzina finally got her tournament moment by advancing her team to the semifinals with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win over Danielle Mills that snapped her two-match losing streak.

Revzina and the rest of the team face a familiar foe in Monday’s semifinals match, No. 2 North Carolina (30-4).  UF defeated the Tar Heels 6-1 on March 10 in Gainesville.
