The Gators kicked off their fall season by going undefeated in six singles matches and three doubles matches on the first day of the 2010 Gator Invitational Friday.

In doubles action, sophomores Bob van Overbeek and Billy Federhofer teamed up to defeat Florida Atlantic’s Marc Abelnour and Ervin Garibovic (8-6).

The team of Alexandre Lacroix and Nassim Slilam proved no match for North Florida’s Daniel Sotomarino and Hleb Maslau, securing an easy win (8-2).

It was also a good day for the team’s two freshmen, Michael Alford and Andrew Butz.

The duo earned an 8-5 victory against North Florida’s Mortiz Buerchner and Beuregard Treyz.

The Gators kept on rolling in singles competition as Lacroix earned a tough (6-3, 6-7(6), 6-4) victory against Abelnour.

Van Overbeek enjoyed an easier (6-1, 7-5) win over Buerchner.

Slilam struggled in his first set against Maslau, but came within one game of winning the match outright before Maslau dropped out due to cramps.

In the other three flights, Alford defeated Garibovic (6-3, 6-3), Federhofer dominated Daniel Vardag of Florida Atlantic (6-0, 6-1) and Butz defeated Sotomarino (6-1, 6-4).
