Chocolate Nails
Chocolate Nails

I’ve always been a firm believer in a good manicure. Well-manicured nails can transform your entire ensemble. This is great news to broke college girls like myself.  With the swipe of an on-trend nail polish color, you can instantly update your look for the fall season.

As mentioned in my post from last week, military trends are constantly inspiring fashion designers. Nail polish colors are no exception. As opposed to last year’s jewel-tone trends, this fall designers are showing a more neutral, military-inspired palette.

Global Creative Director of Chanel Makeup Peter Philips created Les Khaki de Chanel which is a collection of three neutral tones—Khaki Vert, Khaki Brun and Khaki Rose. Khaki Vert, a military green, is my favorite out of the camouflage collection.

Other neutral shades that are popular this season are browns and grays. Two of Essie’s Fall 2010 collection stand outs are Little Brown Dress and Chinchilly.

Little Brown Dress is a smooth, chocolatey-brown color that looks soft and velvety once applied. Chinchilly is a cement gray color that looks chic and effortless and is a great transition color from the summer. Cement and smoky grays are popular among celebrities such as Lauren Conrad and "Gossip Girl"’s Jessica Szohr.

I decided to test out the trend today with OPI’s Suzi Says Da. It’s a chocolaty brown color similar to Little Brown Dress that I found at a local Gainesville salon. I’m loving this neutral trend and can't wait to get me some Chinchilly!

This just goes to show that you can never go wrong with neutrals.
