Gainesville Police caught a man late Monday night who had escaped while being transported to the Alachua County Jail early Sunday morning.

According to a GPD release, after giving officers multiple fake names and birth dates to conceal arrest warrants from Indian River for dealing in stolen property and grand theft, he was identified as Robert Franklin Ellis, 34.

Ellis was arrested at about 2 a.m., but while he was being transported to the jail, he kicked out the patrol car window. He then situated his handcuffed hands to the front of his body, and despite being tased and told not to move, Ellis dove out of the car near the 1600 block of Eighth Avenue.

According to the release, officials think he might have been involved in a residential burglary after escaping from the car near the area he was last seen.
