Writing to make people laugh can be incredibly terrifying. When you're going for humor, you’d better have something funny to say.
Luckily for the both of us, I’m not writing this blog to crack jokes. Instead, this will be a place for me to let you in on my humble observations of local comedy.
I’ll be revealing behind-the-scenes tips, sharing interviews with performers and posting reviews of some of the latest shows in town.
For those who like improvisational comedy, UF is home to the Theatre Strike Force, one of the largest, longest-running collegiate improv and sketch comedy training programs.
The program has performed in improv festivals all over the country.
If you prefer stand-up comedy, UF’s got you covered there, too. The University Stand-Up Comedy Club helps students learn everything they need to know about writing and performing stand-up while providing a venue for people to perform.
Each student group has competed nationally. While the Comedy Club won the National College Stand-Up Competition last year, Theatre Strike Force will be competing for its second time in the College Improv Tournament semifinals in February.
In addition to these groups, Gainesville also has many video and sketch comedy groups that I’ll be sure to include in my blog as well.
So be sure to check back here every Wednesday to stay on top of Gainesville’s comedy scene.
