Matthew Christ should be ashamed of himself, but instinct tells me he is probably rather proud. In the space of three sentences in yesterday’s guest column, he managed to label the Tucson shooter as ideologically conservative and try to weasel away from the fallout.

Christ is heir to a long Democrat tradition of blaming every tragedy on conservatives to score political points — note Christ’s plug for UF College Democrats at the end of his piece.

It would be easy to point out Lee Harvey Oswald, John Kennedy’s shooter, was a leftist.  It would be easy to point out James Earl Ray, Martin Luther King Jr.’s killer, was a leftist.

I could also shamelessly make the case Jared Loughner is a leftist because the Communist Manifesto was among his favorite books. But after hearing what Loughner has said, the only ideology he subscribes to is psychosis. I would consider myself degenerate for trying to project anything more onto him for political gain.

Nevertheless, Christ brands decent Americans  as crazies for the errant actions of one man,  although he asks we not blame the entire Democratic Party for one congressman who wants to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine.

I must agree with Christ, though: Democrats do not want to write and vote on legislation to make the media environment “fairer” for their dying liberal message. They would rather pass their regulations by authoritarian decree through the FCC.

Because this is the end of my letter, I suppose I should promote something too: God bless the Republic.
