It’s legal. We promise.
A few, select members of Theatre Strike Force will be up for bid, and all proceeds will go toward the American Cancer Society via the Relay for Life event.
This might be TSF’s second big fundraiser this year for Relay, but it’s definitely the sexiest. The auction will be at Brophy’s Pub in downtown Gainesville, where improvisers are auctioned off for a date to the highest bidder.
Holding events like Date Auction in bars might be the reason members have been auctioned off for more than $400, but maybe that’s the result of some skillful event planning.
While it might seem a little degrading, or even super weird, the objectification that Date Auction presents is a TSF tradition, and one that brings in quite a bit of money for Relay.
The good thing about TSF is that no matter how weird we are, there’s usually a noble intention behind its madness.
So, of course auctioning off members for money might sound a little unorthodox, and potentially illegal, but it’s for cancer research. And tax deductions.
