For some of you, it's part two of a sweltering summer in Gainesville. Halftime is over. Hang in there and drink a lot of water. Summer B is a little more lively around here.

For others, it's your first taste of life at UF. Welcome.

Take advantage of all the new opportunities before you - join clubs, enjoy frosty non-adult (or adult, if you're old enough) beverages and good food at Gainesville's finest establishments and study hard.

We know being the small fry on campus can be overwhelming. We know how daunting it is to realize you're really on your own. We know how stupid it feels to get lost or to find yourself in the wrong room for class (even though we will never admit it, it still happens to us).

But don't worry. Campus gets smaller, and the routine settles in quickly.

Remember: Don't be afraid to ask questions. Most people don't bite - even if they are Gators. And don't think you need to lug around every single textbook for all of your classes. Chances are, you might not need to or choose to crack open any of them.

To relax, get out of town when you get the chance and spend a day at Lake Wauburg or in one of Alachua County's cozy little hamlets, like Micanopy, Newberry or Alachua.

And it's good to be informed, ya know? So remember to stop by the nearest orange box every Tuesday and Thursday and pick up your friendly neighborhood Alligator for the latest in campus news.
